My dad mowed the lawn on crutches.

Not because he had to. Because that grass wasn't going to mow itself.

That's where I come from. That's the kind of stubborn that gets passed down at the dinner table whether you want it or not.

And when cancer showed up — once, then again, then a third time with a different name tag — I found out I'd inherited more of it than I thought.

I didn't handle it gracefully every time. Some of it was ugly. Some of it was the kind of scared that keeps you up at 3am staring at a ceiling that has no answers.

But I kept getting up. Partly faith. Partly spite. Mostly because the lawn wasn't going to mow itself.

I wrote two books about all of it. The Pittsburgh summers. The careers that fell apart. The moments that were somehow beautiful and terrible at the exact same time.

Neither one has a five-step plan. There's no formula for hard stuff.

They're just honest. The kind of honest that feels a little uncomfortable to write and maybe a little relieving to read.

The two books are really one long conversation — and I bundled them together because splitting them up felt wrong, like stopping a story halfway through.

If you've ever kept moving when you had every excuse not to, these were written for you. If someone you love is in a rough season, they'd make a meaningful gift.

The bundle is right here.
