Floating Shelves — Solid-Wood Build Plan No. 6, PDF Plan with Diagram, Cut List & Hidden Hardware
Build solid-wood shelves that hide their hardware completely — a steel plate and rods inside the shelf — so the wood appears to float on the wall. This 5-page PDF plan (Build Plan No. 6 in the Fox Feather Farms winter series) makes the 36 x 9 in (91 x 23 cm) shelf, 2 in thick, in pine, poplar, or oak, and one 8 ft 2x10 board yields two shelves. Inside: a dimensioned layout diagram (top view plus a side cross-section showing exactly how the rods, plate, and wall fit together), a cut list covering the shelf slab, steel rods, and mounting plate, a full materials list with per-line costs in Canadian dollars (about $32 per shelf), the tools required, finishes and cure times, and a 9-step build summary from crosscutting to setting the mounting hardware with the finished shelf, with a test-fit of the plate and rods along the way. Mounting hardware is in the parts list, and the closing safety notes cover the two things that matter most — bore the rod holes dead straight, and land the plate on at least two wall studs. About 1.5 hours of active work per shelf. Personal use only — print and use as often as you like for yourself or as gifts; please don't redistribute the files or resell them.
