Nta's Library

Nta has one book. Everyone wants to read it.

In Nkulumane, a busy neighbourhood in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, her school has no library. So when Mama brings home a book of her very own, Nta shares it, first from an old crate in Gogo’s yard, then from hand to hand across the neighbourhood. But when the book is soaked in the stream, Nta learns what Gogo already knows, that one seed doesn’t make a field.

Nta’s Library is a warm, funny story about noticing what’s missing, asking for help, and starting something that grows. It’s Book One of I Am A Citizen, a series about purpose and belonging for children everywhere.

What you get

• The illustrated story, in a phone edition and a wide edition for tablets, computers and reading aloud to a class
• “Your turn” activity pages to print (A4): four reflection questions and a Seed Plan for children to write their own wish and first step
• A short glossary of words from Nta’s world

For: Primary school children, for families, teachers, librarians and youth groups.

The Library Promise

50% of net proceeds from the I Am A Citizen series goes to programmes that pay school fees and bring books and libraries to girls and boys in rural communities in Zimbabwe. I’ve set a price, but you’re welcome to pay more. Every extra dollar goes further.
