THE STORY BEHIND IT

This winter has asked me to listen—

really listen—

to things I avoided hearing for nine long years:

• the truth about burnout

• the truth about what I carried

• the truth about who I was becoming when no one was watching

In that silence, childhood memories returned.

Nights on the loft at my grandmother’s home in Sul,

in Verdal, Norway, in the 1980s.

A cold room, a newly ironed sheet,

and the slow ritual she taught me for falling asleep with peace,

no matter the temperature or the darkness.

This artwork carries that memory:

the strength of women,

the quiet pulse of lineage,

the alchemy that begins when you finally let yourself rest.

It holds the warmth in the centre of the chest,

the golden ignition of the solar plexus,

and the sovereignty that emerges when you breathe all the way in

instead of holding yourself together.
