Your students will love this fun and engaging activity plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate plane to create a net of a 3D house. This printable download combines maths with 3D paper craft and can be used at any time of year!

Easy prep, print-and-go activity. Teacher instructions and step-by-step student instructions are included as well as answer keys for students to self-check work promoting independence. I have also included teacher demonstration models for decoration ideas to save you time although I don't tell my students what they are making until they have plotted the net to add to the excitement!

Ideas

Use it as a geometry Christmas activity to make a gingerbread house, Halloween activity to make a haunted house, Easter activity to make Easter Bunny's cottage, or link to history topics to make a house from a specific period.

This engaging activity is differentiated:

* Single Quadrant including translation,

** Single quadrant including reflection about a line and translation

*** 4-quadrant including reflection about line and translation

Printing - each student needs:

➜ 2 instruction pages (paper)

➜ 1 coordinate plane (card)

I have also included 4 nets for you to use as demonstration models without the need to plot the points yourself - time saving!

These demonstration designs are:

➜ Easter Bunny Cottage

➜ Haunted Halloween House

➜ Christmas Gingerbread Cottage

➜ Blank - you could decorate it to match your theme.

Usage Suggestions:

➜ Coordinate Lesson: Perfect for reinforcing coordinate lessons.

➜ Building Topics: Complement topics related to buildings and architecture.

➜ Festive Fun: Create Christmas gingerbread house activities to add a seasonal touch.

➜ Halloween: Create spooky haunted houses to create a Halloween scene.

➜ Easter: Create the Easter Bunny's cottage and fill with chocolate eggs as a Spring Break Easter Gift.

Others Materials Needed:

➜ Pencil

➜ Ruler

➜ Pair of Compasses (or trace the circle template)

➜ Scissors

➜ Colouring Pens/Pencils

➜ Clear Plastic (ideal from a used envelope)

➜ Glue (suitable for paper and cardboard)

➜ We add a battery tealight to use the house as a cute Christmas decoration.

Additional Tip:

I have found that not revealing what your students will be making can add an air of excitement and anticipation which motivates students to complete the task! I have been deliberately vague about the outcome in the instructions in case you choose to do the same.
