Reading List App
Version 1.1.1 · Requires macOS 14 or later
Reading List is a Mac app created to help researchers keep track of papers to read. It works similarly to Apple's Reminders app, but with many extra features, including:
- Papers can be filed under topics, and topics can nest inside broader topics
- Paste BibTeX, RIS, or a Zotero bibliography and each entry becomes a reading list item
- Mark papers read, partly read, or tabled, with the date of each recorded
- Assign papers priority levels and flags
- Set deadlines that turn red as they get close, with optional notifications
- A paper filed in several places is recognized as one paper: mark it read just once
- Sort papers alphabetically, by deadline, or manually rearrange
- Use a reading list to generate a syllabus reading schedule in a Word document
Donations of a dollar or two are appreciated to help recoup the cost of Apple notarization, which is necessary to make the app distributable. But you can also download for free!
New in 1.1.1 (Oct. 23, 2026):
- Fixes a bug with deadline notifications
- Support for diacritic commands in BibTeX imports
- Other minor fixes
