I’ve written this little resource pack as a way to inspire and help families to get more out of trips to art galleries and museums. They can be such rich, interesting and fun experiences which spark ideas and further interest, but if we’re being honest, they can also be nerve wracking, stressful, confusing and exhausting! I really want this guide to help your experience be the first rather than the second option.
The course is divided up into 3 sections, “Before you go”, “When you get there” and “After you get home” to help you think about the 3 phases of planning for a fab trip.
Within those 3 sections it’s subdivided further into 3 age groups. This is to help you find resources that are just right for the stage of your family, but saying that, children can’t be neatly divided, so have a browse and pick whichever you think will work for your kids, or use the notes as a springboard for your own ideas.
The “Before you go” section is really about help you plan and helping your children be prepared for the trip.
“When you get there” is full of ideas and activities to help you all engage with whatever you’re there to look at, develop your thoughts and ultimately, have fun.
The printable sheets aren’t divided into age groups as it’s really best for you to decide what will be appropriate for your own young people.
“After you get home” is packed with resources to help you reflect on what you’ve seen further, create your own art works in response and ideas to take the learning journey further.
All of these resources aren’t designed with a particular gallery or museum in mind, but have been kept open so that use them wherever you are going.
I really hope this is a fun and useful resource!
