Savannah Boots

The Backstory

Recently, I was in Savannah, Georgia doing street and travel photography. At the end of a brutally hot day, I was ready to head back to my car when I walked by a vintage clothing store located on the second floor of a building. Their only window was decorated with random, old western boots that they used for planters. I quickly photographed the window from a couple of angles and headed for my car.

How I Created this Digital Watercolor Painting

The photos that I took of this window were so captivating - I couldn't wait to get back to my studio to work on a digital watercolor of it. With two angles to work with, I sketched out the initial idea:

I cleaned up the sketch, added details, and drew the boots. The boots were later moved into position and the handrail was sketched in before I began painting. I used a combination of watercolor and ink brushes to achieve the level of detail I wanted.

The end result is completely digitally designed and created. The colorful boots filled with gorgeous florals and greenery were the most time-consuming and challenging part of the painting. I love this piece because it is so colorful and different. It represents all of the funkiness that Savannah has to offer.
