Elise Vest

The Elise Vest is worked in two-coloured zigzag jacquard stitch on the front, and one-colour stockinette stitch on the back. Although a simple silhouette, incorporating wide armholes and side slits, the jacquard pattern on the front provides texture and interest. 

The vest is worked from the bottom up and as flat pieces. It is then seamed at the sides and shoulders, and ribbed bands are worked at the neck and armholes from picked-up stitches. 

The two-coloured jacquard stitch provides the option to go bold, with a contrasting colour scheme, or more tonal. If desired, the vest could also be worked in a single colour.

Select two colours of DK (8 ply) yarn recommended for 4 mm (US size 6) needles and a gauge of 22 stitches and 30 rows per 10 cm (4 inches).

Needles:

• 3.5 mm (US Size 4) circular needles for working the ribbed bands on the armholes and neck (in, say, 50 cm length for neck, 60 cm for armholes). The circular needle can also be used for working the ribbed bands at the bottom (although they are worked flat rather than in the round). 
• 3.5 mm (US Size 4) needles for working bands at bottom of vest (optional as could use circular needles instead, see above). 
• 4 mm (US Size 6) needles for working vest.
