The Daily Record of Severity of Problems (DRSP) is a self-reporting tool used to monitor and assess the severity of symptoms in women experiencing Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). It helps track daily symptoms and their severity, providing valuable information for healthcare providers to make an accurate diagnosis and develop an effective treatment plan.

The DRSP includes:

  • 11 symptom items: Mood swings, irritability, depression, anxiety, lack of interest, difficulty concentrating, fatigue, appetite changes, sleep problems, feeling overwhelmed, and physical symptoms (e.g., breast tenderness, joint pain, bloating)
  • Daily rating scale: Each symptom is rated on a scale from 1 (not present) to 6 (extreme) based on the severity experienced on that day
  • Duration: Ideally, the DRSP should be completed for at least two consecutive menstrual cycles to capture a reliable pattern of symptoms and their severity
  • Additional notes: Space for recording any other relevant information or experiences, such as medication changes, significant life events, or specific coping strategies

Using the DRSP helps women and healthcare providers identify the cyclical pattern of PMDD symptoms, differentiate PMDD from other disorders (e.g., PMS, PME, or ADHD), and evaluate the effectiveness of treatment strategies.
