This Thanksgiving Porcupine Art Project is a layered mixed media harvest artwork for grades 1 to 4. Students create a porcupine surrounded by harvest foods and seasonal details: potatoes, corn, cranberries, an apple, a carrot and a horn of plenty.

Along the way students explore painted paper cutouts, layering, texture, shape, color and composition. They paint harvest foods, create separate paper elements, draw the porcupine, add shading and highlights, and arrange everything into one finished composition. It suits classroom teachers, art teachers, homeschool families and sub plans.
