BALKAN SKETCHES for Violin & Guitar by Dusan Bogdanovic
Originally conceived for solo guitar, Balkan Sketches, is a vibrant and dramatic suite of songs and dances based on folk music from the Western Balkans, which in this instrumentation, features violin and guitar duo. With the exception of the original South Serbian dance “Vranjanka,” the other movements belong to what Béla Bartók famously described as “imaginary folklore”—music that draws upon the spirit, gestures, rhythms, and colors of traditional folk music while creating a new musical language.
The pieces were dedicated to, and recorded by Edin Karamazov and Stefan Milenković violin-guitar duo.
