The Legendary Mr. D - 3 Book Set
Book 1 — The Originals (1928–1939)
How did a Salvation Army bandmaster turn a handful of Vancouver schoolboys into world champions — twice — before WWII broke out?
Toronto. Chicago. The West of England. Crystal Palace. San Francisco. New York. By 1939 the Kitsilano Boys' Band had toured them all — and were stranded in England when war was declared.
Before there were Canadian content rules, before there was a Canadian flag, there was a 14-year-old Vancouver boy with a cornet and a one-way ticket to the world stage.
Book 2 — The War and Post-War Years (1940s–1950s)
While their older brothers shipped out, the Kits Band stayed home and played for the war effort — 200+ concerts, every bond drive, every troop send-off in BC.
In 1950 the band crossed the Atlantic to play Oosterbeek, Holland — the same fields where Canadian soldiers had liberated the town five years earlier. They came home as champions.
How does a teenage boys' band from Vancouver end up headlining the Moss-Empire vaudeville circuit across Britain? Mr. D found a way.
Book 3 — A New Beginning (1960s–1970s)
Three-time world champions at Kerkrade. Guests at Expo 67. Tours through the capitals of Europe, Russia, and Estonia at the height of the Cold War — all under one bandmaster who refused to slow down.
Mr. D conducted his last concert in his 90s. "Do not go gently into that good night" — Arthur Delamont didn't.
Every Vancouver kid who ever picked up a horn owes something to the Kitsilano Boys' Band. This is how the legend kept going — and how the Old Boys keep it alive today.
