A Table of Two Worlds
Ages 4-7
The main idea of the story is that being mixed isn’t something confusing or “in-between”—it’s something whole, beautiful, and worth celebrating.
Maya starts out feeling unsure of where she fits because she has more than one cultural background. She feels pressured to choose a single identity or fit into a single box. But during the culture fair, she realizes that her mixed heritage gives her more stories, more traditions, and a richer sense of belonging. Instead of being “half” anything, she understands she is a complete blend of both worlds.
In short:
The story shows that mixed identity is a strength, not a limitation, and that you don’t have to pick one part of yourself—you can proudly be all of them.
