YOUR RESIN COSTS ARE NOT JUST RESIN

Most resin calculators multiply milliliters by price per bottle and stop there. That misses the costs that actually decide whether a resin shop makes money.

THE LCD IS A CONSUMABLE. Your masking screen has a rated life in hours and then it is scrap. On a $65 screen rated for 1,500 hours, every print hour owes it money. Almost no pricing template counts this at all.

FEP FILM. Measured in prints, not years. Both a part cost and lost printing time.

IPA. Wash alcohol is expensive, it saturates, and it gets replaced. Amortized across the prints it cleans, it is a real per-print number.

FAILED PLATES. Resin fails more than FDM. A failed plate still burns resin, screen hours and FEP life. If 15% fail, every good part must carry that, and the only way to handle that is to divide by your success rate.

WASH AND CURE TIME. Draining, washing, curing and support removal is paid labor. On small parts it routinely exceeds the print cost itself.

MARKETPLACE FEES. You cannot add your margin and then subtract fees. That arithmetic does not leave you with your margin. The price has to be solved backwards.

On the worked example included, a shop targeting 35% using the standard method actually earns 16.76%, and leaves $8.24 on the table per unit. The workbook shows that gap on every row.

WHAT YOU GET

  • Job Calculator: 25 rows, full breakdown per part, correct list price calculated, plus a column showing exactly what the shortcut would have cost you
  • Setup: machine, LCD life, FEP life, IPA cycle, power, labor, overhead, failure rate
  • Resin Library: your bottles, costed per USABLE milliliter (dregs and vat residue are not printable)
  • Fee Profiles. Etsy, Etsy with Offsite Ads, eBay, Shopify, Amazon Handmade and direct. All editable
  • Break-even & What-if: your lowest acceptable price, a volume table showing what changes when you run 50 instead of 5, and a grid showing what a wrong failure rate costs you
  • Sales Log: what you actually sold, against what the model predicted
  • Dashboard: four live charts (cost breakdown, correct vs naive vs break-even, cost and price as the run gets longer, and price against failure rate) that follow whichever job row you select
  • Start Here: a plain-English guide, color-coded so you know which cells to touch

Works in Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, both tested. Instant digital download. No macros, no add-ons, nothing to install. Every formula is visible and editable, so you can check the math yourself.

WHO THIS IS FOR

Miniature printers, prop and model makers, dental and jewelry casting, and anyone running MSLA as a business rather than a hobby. If you already amortize your LCD hours and track cost per usable milliliter, you don't need this.
