Sauer-Puss: A Fermentation Guide with Recipes Designed to Support Women’s Health and the Vaginal Microbiome
A Fermentation Guide with Recipes Designed to Support Women’s Health and the Vaginal Microbiome
Sauer Puss explores the intersection of fermented foods, gut microbiome health, and hormonal cycle physiology through an accessible, practically oriented guidebook for women. Drawing on research into the estrobolome, β-glucuronidase activity, enterohepatic estrogen recycling, and the gut-vaginal axis, the book details emerging science on gut-hormone communication and pairs it with hands-on instructions for fermentation at home.
Throughout my studies in the nutrition field, I have seen how far-reaching wellness and health truly are. There are many systems at play, many of which are outside of our immediate control. Through small and empowered actions, such as intentional eating and cooking, we can take back some power and agency.
Sauer Puss is composed of three parts. It opens with the science, covering how gut bacteria and hormonal cycles are more connected than most of us realize. From there, it moves into a hands-on fermentation guide. Readers to learn simple methods to feel confident when attempting each recipe themselves. Using nothing more than mason jars and other simple tools, I walk through numerous base recipes, including sauerkraut, tepache, kombucha, yogurt, and lacto-fermented vegetables. The final section is where the science and technique come together with thirteen bonus recipes.
This book is about making complicated science feel understandable and connecting it to the wisdom of the female body. In this way, fermentation goes beyond just being a kitchen skill. It becomes a way of understanding and supporting our bodies from the inside out.
May we nourish, honor, and learn together
