About the artwork
Trellis was William Morris's first wallpaper design, from 1864, inspired by the rose trellis in the garden of his Red House in Bexleyheath. His friend the architect Philip Webb drew the birds. A rose-covered lattice with blue birds, left on open fabric between the stems.
