A bush. A call. A brave beginning.

What can we do when a good task feels too big?

Moses is looking after sheep when he notices an astonishing sight: a bush shining with fire that does not burn away. God calls him to help the people suffering in Egypt. Moses has questions and worries, especially about speaking. God promises to be with him, and his brother Aaron will help.

At home, Maya is unsure about placing the last block on a little bridge. Through the story, Eli, Maya and Mum discover that asking for help can be a brave beginning.

Moses and the Bush That Shone with Fire is Book 16 in Little Bible Explorers by Steve Lewis. This original, simplified Bible retelling pairs gentle pastel storybook illustrations with reading and conversation for children aged 3–8.

READING INFORMATION

The PDF preserves the square 8 × 8 inch layout and opens in a PDF reader. Its text can be selected and searched.

The EPUB requires a reader supporting EPUB 3 fixed-layout books. Its text does not reflow or resize independently of the pictures. Complete page text is included in image descriptions, and the contents links to every page. Tablets, computers and colour e-readers are best suited to these illustrated editions.

Eli and Maya are fictional children exploring the Bible in the present day. Moses and Aaron are shown as adults; their clothing and surroundings are artistic interpretations. Illustrations were created with AI assistance and reviewed for this edition.

A NOTE FOR GROWN-UPS

Moses’s call was a particular event in the Bible. Children do not need to look for unusual signs or copy his actions around fire. The paper shining bush activity uses paper, glue and colours only: never real fire, matches or candles.

The story acknowledges that the people in Egypt were treated cruelly. Read slowly, welcome questions and explain “holy” as special and set apart for God. Moses’s difficulty with speaking did not make him less valuable. Encourage children to give others time to communicate and accept help without shame.

This edition preserves the source digital manuscript’s story, questions, activities, prayer and grown-up notes, with newly remade illustrations. It does not replace reading the full Bible account.
