In this Lunar New Year art lesson, students create a Lunar New Year Dragon artwork. They explore making oil pastel marks, then complete the artwork with watercolor paint. An included reading and poem about the Lunar New Year works as a hook and gives age-appropriate information about the holiday.

It is a complete, fully planned mixed media lesson with all the steps, rubric, lesson plan, assessment and reflections, designed to help students develop their creative thinking skills. It is made for 3rd, 4th and 5th grades, and it is a good fit for teachers who are short on time or want more confidence teaching art.
