Create your Own Theme Tune
Create Your Own Theme Tune – A 5‑Lesson Creative Music Unit
What would your child’s theme tune sound like?
This joyful mini‑unit guides learners through the world of leitmotifs – the short musical ideas used in films and games to represent characters. Children explore how tempo, pitch, rhythm and instrument colour can show personality, then use those same tools to compose a theme tune that is uniquely theirs.
Across five structured lessons, children compare famous character themes (sneaky, heroic, villainous, clumsy), experiment with musical traits, complete fun worksheets, and build a personal “blueprint” for their own motif. The unit ends with a playful walk‑on performance where each child presents their custom theme tune.
This resource is designed for EYFS–KS2, but older children often enjoy joining in too. Activities are fully differentiated and work beautifully in mixed‑age home‑ed families as well as classrooms.
No specialist equipment is needed.
Children can compose using their voices, body percussion, household objects, or simple digital tools.
