Teacher Pack
Six one-hour lessons on logic gates, plus an introductory lesson, ready to teach, with answer keys and assessments. In English.
For secondary school (high school) teachers of computing, physics, design and technology or electronics, for post-16 courses and for
after-school clubs.
• 6 one-hour lessons, each with its own lesson plan: learning objectives, minute-by-minute plan, answer keys for the activities, differentiation (support and challenge), common mistakes.
• One assessment per lesson (5 questions, out of 10, with a mark scheme) and student worksheets to photocopy.
• Plus a one-hour introductory lesson, minute by minute, with 4 student worksheets and exit tickets with answer keys.
• A cheat sheet of the 6 logic gates (ANSI/IEEE distinctive-shape and IEC symbols).
• 50 circuits to project on the board, sorted by lesson, no internet needed.
• A contents page and user guide: what to print, what to project.
• Free to use in your own class or club (no reselling).
The 6 lessons: AND, OR and NOT gates · truth tables · NAND and NOR, the universal gates · XOR and the 1-bit adder · reading
a circuit and predicting its output · a mini-project (design a circuit and test it).
Curriculum links: each lesson gives a general link (computing, physics, design and technology, electronics; lower
secondary to post-16). We don't map the lessons to a specific national curriculum, so please check them against yours.
To be upfront: these lessons have not been taught in a classroom yet; tell us what works and what doesn't. The pack was first
written in French. The first 10 circuits of the free game on the site need no sign-up (the game itself is in French for
now; the "Learn" pages are in English).
Printing: laid out for A4 paper; on US Letter, choose "Fit to page": the pages shrink slightly and nothing is cut off
(checked on screen, not yet printed on Letter).
