Last year more photographs were taken than in the whole history of photography prior to that year. Most of these photographs will be just records shots probably Selfie’s of the owner grinning into the camera. These are not what a real photographer would call a photo. To take great photos needs knowledge of how light works, when light is at its best. Knowledge of depth of field and how this relates to ISO speed and aperture are the foundations a photographer needs to know.
