Reclaiming emotionally rich conversations as legitimate, occupational therapy practice.

Some of the most powerful occupational therapy work happens in moments that do not look like “doing” at all. A conversation that steadies someone. A shared reflection that helps meaning return. A moment of being genuinely witnessed that allows action to feel possible again.

And yet, emotionally rich conversations are often the first part of our work that we feel the need to justify, minimise, or quietly defend.

This training focuses on reclaiming those conversations as legitimate, skilled, and deeply occupational practice. It supports occupational therapists to stay grounded in their professional identity while working in emotionally complex and relational spaces, without slipping into role confusion or feeling pulled outside the boundaries of occupational therapy.

Together, we will explore how conversation itself can function as an occupation. Shaped by context, purpose, timing, and meaning, these moments can support participation just as powerfully as more visible forms of intervention. The session offers language, conceptual anchors, and clinical clarity to help you articulate why these moments matter, how they support occupational engagement, and how to work with emotional depth while staying firmly rooted in occupational reasoning.

This is not about borrowing psychotherapy language or apologising for relational work. It is about strengthening confidence in occupational presence, occupational meaning-making, and relational reasoning, so that what you do in the room feels coherent, ethical, and clearly OT.

This training is well suited to occupational therapists working in mental health, neurodivergence, trauma-informed services, and any role where emotional labour and conversation are central to change.

When conversations are held well, occupations can begin to move again.
