Cold floors, aggressive air conditioning, chilly nights at the beach—even in the dog days of summer, sometimes you need just a little something to cover your toes.

Canícula footie socks are worked from the toe up with a little twisted rib for texture. A short row heel wraps neatly around the back of your foot, with a little extra shaping to raise it up to cushion the back of your ankle. Finish them off with an i-cord trim and you’ve got the perfect pair of light slippers for unpredictable summer temperatures.

Sizes: 1 (2, 3, 4) [5, 6, 7]; to fit a foot circumference of 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5) [10, 10.5, 11]”/20.5 (21.5, 23, 24) [24.5, 26.5, 28] cm

Gauge: 32 sts and 40 rnds = 4”/10 cm in st st, blocked

Yarn: Knit Picks Elixir, 45% alpaca, 35% Merino wool, 20% linen, 164 yd/2 oz (150 m/50 g): 1 (1, 1, 2) [2, 2, 2] balls in Hibiscus

or approx. 110 (135, 160, 185) [210, 235, 260] yd/100 (125, 145, 170) [190, 215, 240] m heavy fingering weight yarn

A note on yarn: Elixir is on the heavier side of fingering weight; if you are picking a different yarn, a sturdy fingering or even a light sport weight worked at this gauge will create a slipper with more structure.

Suggested needle size: US 1/2.25 mm long circular needle or DPNs, or size to obtain gauge
