Shown in Murky Depths Dyeworks Deep Dips set of five mini skeins of Deep Sock (80% superwash merino/20% nylon; 400 yds./366 m per 3.5 oz./100 g set) in Malmo, one mini skein each of New Moon, Silvery Moon, Ozone, Scion, and Philomena
Needles: US 4 (3.5 mm), or size needed to obtain gauge, 16 in/40 cm circular
Gauge: 26 stitches & 34 rounds = 4 in./10 cm in stranded colorwork in the round
Finished Dimensions: Approximately 18.5 in./47 cm around and 12.25 in./31 cm tall
As I was knitting this cowl with an improvised colorwork stitch pattern, I was watching a Masterpiece Mystery show set in the city of Amsterdam and admiring the shots of the city. It occurred to me that the stitch pattern looked an awful lot like the tall, narrow houses so common in the city, the reflection of which can so often be seen in the canals that are so ubiquitous. From this realization came the name for this pattern, Dutch for “the reflection.”
