Johann Sebastian Bach (1685–1750) was a towering figure of the Baroque era, renowned for his mastery of counterpoint, harmonic depth, and spiritual intensity. His music spans sacred and secular genres, from monumental organ works and cantatas to orchestral suites and intimate chamber pieces. Bach’s legacy is especially profound in the realm of sacred music, where his compositions often reflect deep theological insight and emotional resonance.

“My Heart Ever Faithful” is the English title of the aria “Mein gläubiges Herze”, from Cantata BWV 68, Also hat Gott die Welt geliebt (“For God so loved the world”). This cantata was composed in 1725 for the 14th Sunday after Trinity. The aria is scored for soprano, oboe d’amore, strings, and continuo, and it radiates joy and trust in divine presence.

The text, penned by Christiane Mariane von Ziegler, expresses unwavering faith and rejoicing in the nearness of Jesus. A typical English translation of the opening lines reads:

> My heart ever faithful, sing praises, be joyful, > Thy Jesus is near!

The aria’s buoyant rhythm and lyrical melody make it a favorite for vocal recitals and sacred services alike. Despite its modest length, it encapsulates Bach’s gift for marrying theological depth with musical elegance.
