The PLöRK Method: Systems-Aware Serious Play for Organizational Transformation
This book is written as a practitioner’s guide to systems-aware facilitation using the PLöRK method. It is designed to be read in two complementary ways: linearly, as a complete journey from foundations to advanced practice, and modularly, as a reference you can open at the chapter most relevant to your next workshop. It is an add-on for the students attending the Certified Agile Coach (CAC 1) masterclass as part of module 5 on Facilitation and Visual Management.
If you are new to facilitation or serious play, start with Parts I and II to ground yourself in the core skills, systems perspective, and overall PLöRK process. More experienced facilitators may wish to begin with the game mechanics, communication patterns, or design chapters, and then circle back to the theoretical underpinnings as needed.
Throughout the book, you will find three types of elements:
- Conceptual explanations that connect PLöRK to systems thinking, complexity, and behavioral science
- Practical design patterns for workshops, meetings, and games
- Reflective prompts to help you examine your own practice as a facilitator and coach
This book pairs naturally with the PLöRK Practitioner Workbook, which contains structured templates, self-assessments, and ready-to-use planning pages for your workshops. Use the book to understand the why and how, and the workbook to structure the what and when of your interventions.
You do not need to agree with every concept to benefit from PLöRK. Treat the method as a living framework: adapt it to your context, experiment with the games, observe the system’s responses, and let your own practice evolve.
At this point, do you already know whether you want the front matter to explicitly reference the separate Practitioner Workbook (as a visible “series”), or should it read as a standalone book first and mention the workbook only briefly?
