You cannot get through a single day without having an impact on the world around you. Jane Goodall
I am often feeling upset with myself for not having a bigger impact on the world. Unlike the amazing Jane Goodall and her remarkable life and work, I don’t find my work and life are as important, as impactful as I would like them to be. Honestly! what I do seems so modest, so minor compared to such incredible and influential figures.
Do you relate?
Making a BIG impact. Making a REAL difference.
I have realised that thinking this way doesn’t do us justice. We are not being fair not only to ourselves but also to the many lives we are in contact with daily. We are so quick at disregarding our doings!
Our mere presence impacts the world around us: people, animals, nature. By considering this impact as small or not enough, we are, in a way, lacking respect to the many we touch daily and aren’t taking ownership of our actions and decisions.
Imagine…what if one single word you said, one day, to a stranger completely shifted the way they think of themselves, and this short encounter with you changed their life forever, for the better, without even you knowing anything about it? What if that was the one and only impactful thing you ever did for your entire life… would you still consider your impact as a small?
What if we started from now, to become more aware of how everything we do impact those around us, and decided to be more mindful about how we use our energy? Our words, actions and decisions are powerful tools that can empower or enslave, create or destroy.
It is up to each and every one of us to decide, day after day, however trivial or inconsequential we may think our work and actions are. What impact do we want to make on this world – positive or negative? We get to choose. Because as Jane Goodall said so wisely, we cannot help but have an effect on our environment.
And you cannot make yourself small or insignificant enough not to have one. That’s where the Butterfly Effect theory comes from.
You are powerful. Your impact extends probably way beyond what you can perceive. Make the best use of it you possibly can!
Have a wonderful weekend!
