Why Catholics Pray the First Five Saturdays?

First Five Saturdays Devotion: Praying the Rosary with Intention and Faithfulness

The Catholic faith invites us not only to pray, but to remain faithful in prayer.

The First Five Saturdays Devotion is a beautiful and powerful Marian devotion rooted in Catholic tradition and requested by Our Lady of Fatima. It calls the faithful to offer reparation to the Immaculate Heart of Mary while deepening their relationship with Christ through consistent prayer and sacramental life.

The Catholic Origin of the First Five Saturdays

In 1925, Our Lady appeared to Sister Lúcia, one of the Fatima visionaries, and asked for a specific devotion of reparation. She explained that her Immaculate Heart was surrounded by thorns placed there by the sins and indifference of humanity, and that many souls were lost because there were few willing to console her.

Our Lady requested that, for five consecutive First Saturdays, the faithful:

  • Go to Confession
  • Receive Holy Communion
  • Pray five decades of the Holy Rosary
  • Spend fifteen minutes meditating on the mysteries of the Rosary
  • Offer all of this with the intention of reparation to her Immaculate Heart

The five Saturdays represent reparation for five major offenses against the Immaculate Heart of Mary, including blasphemies and the neglect of devotion to her.

Our Lady promised special graces to those who faithfully complete this devotion, particularly her maternal assistance at the hour of death.

The Rosary: A Prayer of Reparation and Love

The Rosary is at the heart of the First Five Saturdays devotion. It is not simply a repetition of prayers, but a meditative journey through the life of Christ, seen through the eyes of His Mother.

At Blessed Annotations, our handmade rosaries are created with prayer, intention, and reverence. Each rosary is carefully made to support your devotional life—never mass-produced, but crafted to become a sacred companion in prayer.

A handmade rosary invites you to slow down, reflect, and fully enter the mysteries. Whether you are beginning the First Five Saturdays devotion or deepening your daily prayer routine, the rosary you hold becomes a tangible expression of faithfulness and love.
