Ingredients
For the Stir-Fry:
- 1 lb beef (such as flank steak or sirloin), thinly sliced against the grain
- 4 cups broccoli florets
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 tablespoon sesame oil
- 1 onion, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Salt and pepper, to taste
For the Stir-Fry Sauce:
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons oyster sauce
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 teaspoon ginger, grated
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 cup water or beef broth
For the Rice:
- 1 cup jasmine rice
- 2 cups water
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
Preparing the Rice:
- Rinse jasmine rice under cold water until water runs clear.
- In a pot, combine rice, 2 cups of water, and a pinch of salt. Bring to a boil.
- Reduce heat to low, cover, and simmer for 18-20 minutes, or until water is absorbed and rice is tender.
- Remove from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes before fluffing with a fork.
Making the Stir-Fry:
- In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, oyster sauce, brown sugar, ginger, cornstarch, and water/beef broth. Set aside.
- Heat vegetable oil and sesame oil in a large skillet or wok over high heat.
- Add beef in a single layer and sear for 1-2 minutes per side until browned. Remove beef from skillet and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add a bit more oil if needed, then add broccoli florets, onion, and garlic. Stir-fry for about 3-4 minutes, or until vegetables are tender but crisp.
- Return the beef to the skillet. Pour the stir-fry sauce over the top and toss to combine. Cook for another 1-2 minutes until the sauce thickens.
- Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serving:
Serve the beef and broccoli stir-fry over a bed of fluffy jasmine rice. This dish is a symphony of tender beef, crunchy broccoli, and savory sauce, all harmonized with the delicate fragrance of jasmine rice.
