10 Ways to Get Your Spark Back for God by Devoted & God-Led

"Return to me, and I will return to you, says the Lord Almighty."

— Malachi 3:7

We've all been there.

There was a season when your faith felt alive. When prayer felt natural. When reading the Bible wasn't a chore but a hunger. When God felt close — not like a distant concept but a real, present, personal Father.

And then somehow, slowly, quietly — the spark faded.

Not because you stopped believing. But because life got loud. Distractions crept in. Guilt built up. Consistency broke down. And before you knew it, the relationship that once defined everything felt like a distant memory.

If that's where you are right now — this post is for you.

You are not too far gone. You have not drifted beyond God's reach. And you don't need a dramatic mountaintop experience to find your way back. You just need to take the next small step — and let God meet you there.

Here are 25 practical, honest, scripture-backed ways to get your spark back for God.

1. Start Praying Honestly, Not Impressively.

(Psalm 62:8)

"Trust in Him at all times, you people; pour out your hearts to Him, for God is our refuge."

One of the reasons prayer starts to feel dead is because we've turned it into a performance. We use the right words, the right tone, the right structure — and somewhere in the middle of all that, we stop actually talking to God.

God doesn't need impressive language. He needs your honest heart. Come to Him messy. Come to Him confused. Come to Him angry, tired, or empty. Pour out exactly what's inside — not what sounds spiritual.

The moment you drop the performance and pick up honesty is the moment prayer becomes a conversation again.

2. Read Scripture to Know God, Not Just to Gain Information.

(John 5:39)

"You study the Scriptures diligently because you think that in them you have eternal life. These are the very Scriptures that testify about Me."

It's possible to read the Bible regularly and still miss the point entirely. Jesus confronted religious leaders who knew scripture perfectly but didn't know Him personally.

When you open the Bible, don't just look for information, inspiration, or content ideas. Look for God. Ask — what does this reveal about His character? What is He saying to me through this passage today? Let scripture be a window into who God is, not just a book of facts to collect.

3. Wake Up and Seek God Before Reaching for Your Phone.

(Matthew 6:33)

"Seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well."

The first thing you give your attention to in the morning sets the tone for your entire day. When your phone is the first thing you reach for, you've already handed the first moments of your day to notifications, news, and noise.

Try this for one week — before you unlock your screen, spend five minutes with God. A prayer, a verse, a moment of silence. Give Him the first fruit of your day and watch how it changes everything that follows.

4. Repent Quickly Instead of Carrying Guilt.

(1 John 1:9)

"If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness."

Unconfessed sin is one of the heaviest things a person can carry. It creates distance between you and God — not because He moved, but because guilt makes you feel unworthy to approach Him.

But God's invitation is always open. Repentance doesn't have to be dramatic or prolonged. It can be as simple as — Lord, I was wrong. Forgive me. Help me do better. That's it. Confess quickly. Receive His forgiveness fully. And move forward without dragging yesterday into today.

5. Worship Even When You Don't Feel Emotional.

(John 4:24)

"God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth."

We've been conditioned to think worship only counts when we feel it deeply — when the tears flow and the goosebumps rise. But Jesus said true worship is in spirit and in truth, not in emotion and feeling.

Worship is a choice before it's an experience. Show up even when you feel nothing. Sing even when the words feel dry. Declare God's goodness even when circumstances contradict it. The feelings often follow the act of obedience — but even when they don't, the worship is still real and still received.

6. Remove the Distractions That Have Been Stealing Your Attention.

(Hebrews 12:1)

"Let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us."

Distractions rarely announce themselves as enemies of your faith. They show up as entertainment, habits, relationships, and scrolling sessions that are harmless individually but collectively steal hours of your day and inches of your heart.

Take an honest inventory. What has been consistently pulling your attention away from God? Social media? A toxic relationship? A habit you've been justifying? Name it. Then make the decision to throw it off — not because God is punishing you, but because you want to run your race well.

7. Fast From Something That's Been Feeding Your Flesh.

(Matthew 6:16-18)

"When you fast, do not look somber as the hypocrites do... But when you fast, put oil on your head and wash your face."

Fasting is one of the most underused spiritual disciplines in modern Christianity. We talk about prayer and worship but fasting gets uncomfortable, so we skip it.

You don't have to fast food. Fast social media for a day. Fast Netflix for a week. Fast the habit that's been numbing you. The point of fasting is to create space — to say to your flesh, you don't get to lead today, God does. In that space, something shifts spiritually that comfort never allows.

8. Spend a Few Minutes in Silence and Let God Speak First.

(Psalm 46:10)

"Be still and know that I am God."

We fill every quiet moment with noise. Podcasts, music, scrolling, talking — we are terrified of silence. But God speaks in the quiet, and if we never get quiet, we never hear Him.

Start with just five minutes. No phone. No music. No agenda. Just stillness. You may not hear an audible voice. But in the quiet, thoughts clarify, peace settles, and God's presence becomes unmistakable. Stillness is a spiritual discipline — and like any discipline, it gets easier the more you practice it.

9. Stop Comparing Your Walk to Someone Else's.

(Galatians 6:4)

"Each one should test their own actions. Then they can take pride in themselves alone, without comparing themselves to someone else."

Comparison is one of the quietest killers of spiritual growth. When you're always measuring your faith against someone else's highlight reel — their prayer life, their ministry, their consistency — you will always come up short.

God didn't give you someone else's walk. He gave you yours. Your pace, your season, your process. Focus on your own race. The only comparison that matters is who you were yesterday and who God is calling you to become.

10. Obey God in the Small Things Again.

(Luke 16:10)

"Whoever can be trusted with very little can also be trusted with much."

We often wait for a big moment of rededication — a conference, a revival, a dramatic experience. But God is watching what you do with the small daily instructions He's already given you.

Call that person you've been avoiding. Give that amount you've been holding back. Say sorry to someone you've wronged. Stop doing the thing you know you shouldn't be doing. Faithfulness in small things is what builds the foundation for everything God wants to do in the bigger ones.

CLOSING

You picked up this blog post for a reason.

Something in you is still hungry for God — otherwise you wouldn't be here. That hunger is not nothing. It is the Holy Spirit drawing you back. It is God refusing to let you go without a fight.

You don't have to implement all 25 today. Pick one. Just one. And do it today.

Then do it again tomorrow.

That is how the spark comes back. Not in a moment — but in the daily, devoted, God-led decision to return to Him one step at a time.

He is waiting. And He has never stopped. 🙏🏼
