TEAS

The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) is a standardized assessment nursing schools use to evaluate applicants and determine their potential for success in a rigorous nursing program. It covers four main areas:

• Reading: analyzing a short passage.
• Math: basic algebra and statistics.
• Science: anatomy & physiology, biology, chemistry, and scientific reasoning.
• English Language and Usage: grammar and word usage.

Deadlines depend on your application cycle. For the RCC Traditional ADN program:

• Spring Start: Apply in June; TEAS is due by September
• Fall Start: Apply in October; TEAS is due by January.

Note: TEAS deadlines are different for RCC’s CEP program. To find the exact dates for this year, go to the RCC Nursing Website and click on “Applicant Filing Dates”.

Your score determines your application points. You can find RCC's traditional ADN enrollment criteria on the Traditional ADN Information Sheet. For the TEAS, the current breakdown is:

• 85% – 100%: 13 points
• 70% – 84%: 10 points
• 62% – 69%: 5 points

Not necessarily, but it helps. Having Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology finished before the exam is highly recommended since they make up a large portion of the science section.

Register at atitesting.com under "Exam Registration." You can choose to take it online (proctored) or in-person at an affiliated site. RCC also hosts the TEAS for certain applicants; they will email you if you are selected to test with them.

To study for the TEAS, I used:

• Books: Mometrix Study Guide (includes 6 unofficial practice tests) and the official ATI Study Manual (includes 1 official practice test).
• YouTube: Professor Yu, Nurse Cheung, and Dr. Matt & Dr. Mike.
• AI: Google Gemini for quick concept explanations.

• Apply Early: Testing spots fill up quickly, especially for in-person seats.
• Free Practice: Once you register, ATI offers a short, free practice test on their site to help you gauge your starting point.
• Do the Work: These guides are tools to help you organize your thoughts, but consistent practice is the only way to secure that 13-point score!
