Why We Started Taking Communion in 2026

Why We Started Taking Communion in 2026

In 2026, our family made a simple but deeply intentional decision: we began taking communion regularly.

Not because it was trendy. Not because we were told to. But because we were hungry for more of Jesus — more awareness of His presence, more alignment with His truth, and more power flowing through our everyday lives.

What started as an act of obedience quickly became a sacred rhythm that reshaped our home.

A Quiet Invitation from the Holy Spirit

The decision didn’t come from a sermon series or a church programme. It came quietly — a gentle nudge from the Holy Spirit reminding us of something ancient, powerful, and often overlooked.

“Do this in remembrance of Me.” — Luke 22:19

Communion was never meant to be occasional. It was never meant to be rushed. And it was never meant to be powerless.

Somewhere along the way, many of us learned to treat communion as a monthly church moment rather than a living encounter with Christ.

In 2026, we felt the Lord inviting us back.

Communion Is Not Just a Symbol — It Is a Spiritual Act

Yes, communion symbolises the body and blood of Jesus — but it is far more than symbolism.

The Bible tells us that when we take communion, we are:

  • Proclaiming the Lord’s death until He comes (1 Corinthians 11:26)
  • Remembering the finished work of the cross
  • Participating in Christ (1 Corinthians 10:16)

There is power in remembrance.

When we break the bread, we remember His body — broken for our healing, our wholeness, our restoration. When we drink the cup, we remember His blood — poured out for forgiveness, freedom, and new covenant life.

Communion anchors us back to the cross — where victory was already won.

We Needed Jesus in Our Everyday Moments

2026 didn’t begin without its challenges. Like many families, we faced:

  • Busy schedules
  • Emotional pressures
  • Spiritual battles
  • The weight of responsibility

We realised something important:

We were praying around our problems, but we needed to center our lives on Jesus Himself.

Communion slowed us down. It forced us to pause. It brought our focus back to Christ — not just what He can do, but who He is.

At the table, we weren’t striving. We were receiving.

What Communion Began to Change in Our Home

As we made communion a regular part of our home life, we noticed shifts — not always loud or dramatic, but deeply real.

  • Peace increased
  • Conversations softened
  • Gratitude deepened
  • Our children became more aware of Jesus
  • Our faith became more anchored in truth, not emotion

There was a greater sensitivity to the Holy Spirit. There was less fear. There was more unity.

Communion became a meeting place — where heaven touched our dining table.

Communion With Children: Teaching Them the Power of the Cross

One of the most beautiful parts of this journey has been sharing communion with our children.

Not forcing. Not overcomplicating. But explaining in simple truth:

  • Jesus loves you
  • Jesus gave His body for you
  • Jesus shed His blood for you
  • Jesus is with us

Communion helped our children understand faith as something lived, not just taught.

Why We Will Keep Taking Communion

We didn’t start communion in 2026 to check a spiritual box. We started because we encountered the presence and power of Jesus in it.

Communion reminds us:

  • We are forgiven
  • We are healed
  • We are covered
  • We are covenant people

In a noisy world, communion brings us back to what matters most.

The cross. The table. Jesus.

An Invitation

You don’t need a perfect setup. You don’t need special elements. You don’t need to wait for Sunday.

All you need is a heart willing to remember.

There is great power in communion — not because of the bread or the cup, but because of Christ Himself.

And in 2026, we chose to make room for Him at our table.
