It feels to me like young people have been dealt a really bad hand these days, and what's worse they seem to get mocked for their reactions to it.
Millennials particularly seem to end up being the butt of the joke, which seems really unfair as they'll be inheriting a world that my own, and previous generations, have done a very good job of filling with bigotry and prejudice and then trashing it for profit.
Anyway, I've had this video (see below) sitting around for ages and I've been wondering about making a lesson for it, so here are some suggestions.
The Millennial Job Interview
How to use this with learners:
You could start by brainstorming the characteristics of different generations:
Baby Boomers, Generation X (Gen X), Millennials (Gen Y), Generation Z (Gen Z), etc.
Then give students these questions to answer as they watch:
- Does she get the job?
- Is the interview fair?
- How realistically does this portray millennials?
- Who created the video?-Why did they create it?
- What audience did they create it for?
- What do they want you to believe?
Then afterwards as a discussion
- How do their views differ?
- How does their body language differ?
- What does he believe about work?
- What does she believe about work?
- Who is right?
When I finally get the time to write this up and design the materials it will go into my collection of lessons based around short videos. You can find lots more lessons like this here: https://payhip.com/peacheypublications/collection/video-shorts-lesson-plans
I hope you enjoy trying these ideas with your learners.
