AI Literacy - Creating an AI image of Yourself

This is an activity that went down well at a recent workshop I lead. It's simple activity that helps your students get used to creating AI generated images using a free AI image generator.

Monster Generator Images

There are a few different image generations sites you can use for this or you can give different ones to different students and see which group produces the best results.

Here's how the activity works:

  • Give each student a link to one of the image generation site.
  • Next ask them to write a description of themselves. Ask them to include as much detail as possible.
  • Now ask them to use the descriptions to try to produce an image that looks like them.
  • Tell them to make three attempts, they can improve their description each time.
  • Ask them to choose the best version.
  • Put the students into groups and ask them to share their images and see whose image looks most like them.
  • Get the students to try to explain how the images are different from the real people. This is a great activity for revising language for describing people.
  • You could also get students to discuss the dangers of image generation tools and what problems they could cause.

Incidentally, when I tried this activity with a group of teachers the ones who used the Monster Generator got the best results.
