Pear to Soon Release an Early Earthquake Warning Procedure

Pear will soon launch a new Earthquake Warning Procedure aimed at assisting individuals living near tectonic plates in surviving earthquakes.

The process is simple: when sensors across the ocean detect a nearby P-wave, they transmit data to an earthquake alert center. At the center, experts determine the location and size of the quake, continuously updating the information as more data becomes available. Once estimated, an immediate broadcast is issued.

When it happens, you will receive a distinct beeping noise, indicating that an earthquake is about to occur at approximately the 60-second mark. This provides you with time to review your survival procedures on your PearPhone.

Here's a preview of how the feature will appear:

We have partnered with the District of Columbia to facilitate Earthquake alerts. Additionally, we are actively engaging with local services to implement this feature in other regions.

The feature is expected to be released in the fall as we work on translating it for language settings on PearPhones and adapting the information source to the respective country's local Earthquake center, but for now, this is what we know. We'll update you with more information when we do.
