Level 10 life - the goal setting & tracking tool you must have for your success

LEVEL 10 LIFE = GOAL SETTING + TRACKING

Today I want to talk about a concept that is described in the book The Miracle morning by Hal Elrod. The idea is that most of us don’t live up to our full potential, and the concept of Level 10 life can help us with tracking the progression of the most important areas of life. He says:

“If we’re measuring our levels of sucess/ satisfaction in any area of our lives, we all want to be living our best lives at a level 10 in each area. Creating your level 10 life begins with creating an honest assessment of where you are.”

It is a goal setting tool as well as a tracker, and if you’re into bullet journaling like me this is a fantastic collection to have in your bullet journal to come back to every month to track your progress. I first came across the level 10 life when I started out with the bullet journal system some years ago and searched for collections to put in my bullet journal.

HOW DOES THE LEVEL 10 LIFE WORK?

Step 1:

You will need a piece of paper and a pen (or a digital device if that is your preference of choice).

Create a circle graph and divide it into as many sections as you like. The tool is originally constructed as a wheel with 10 sections, but I find that 8 sections is just about enough.

Here are some categories to get you started:

  • Friendships
  • Family
  • Love
  • Work
  • Hobbies
  • Health
  • Creativity
  • Spirituality
  • Writing
  • Abundance
  • Finance
  • Saving
  • Business
  • Home/ office environment
  • Personal development
  • Meditation
  • Journaling

Step 2:

Decide which goals you want to achieve within each one of those categories. Write down your goals for each category. For example: let’s say you want to write a book. “Writing” is probably already one of your categories in that case, but the goals can differ from month to month.

Let’s say that you set up a circle graph for each month. The first month you might have goals like:

  • Write outlines for chapter 1-5
  • Research chapter 1-3
  • Start writing

The next month you can set a new set of goals, like so:

  • Write outlines for chapter 6-9
  • Write first draft for chapter 1-2
  • Find an illustrator

3 GOALS

And so on. Try to not set more than 3 goals in one go, since it can get overwhelming. The point is to see your progress. When you’ve accomplished those goals, you can take a well needed rest, because the next month you will start with new, fresh goals to fill up that section of the Level 10 life chart.

When you’ve accomplished the goals you’ve set up for yourself, write new goals for the next time period. Soon enough you will see your progress in the different sections in the circle graph.

If some sections tend to take the lead over others, don’t worry. You can’t be at level 10 all the time with everything, so if you fall behind on your family because you focus on your business for a while it is ok. But maybe it can also be a reminder that you need to focus a bit more on some areas in life that you leave behind.
