Project Overview
This project aims to provide GIS users with standardized, GIS-ready base data derived from OpenStreetMap (OSM). With over 20 years in the GIS industry, I’ve consistently seen new users struggle to access reliable base layers due to:
- Restrictive data sharing policies
- Inconsistent data formats
- The need for technical preprocessing skills
To address these challenges, I developed an automated pipeline that transforms raw OSM data into structured, ready-to-use layers in GeoPackage (.gpkg) format—compatible with both open-source and proprietary GIS tools.
Key Features
- Automated Processing: Converts raw OSM data into usable GIS layers
- GeoPackage Format: Widely supported and efficient
- Modular Layers: Use as-is or customize for specific needs
- Biannual Updates: Ensures data remains current
Target Audience
- New GIS users needing hassle-free base data
- Developers/analysts requiring standardized input
- Organizations integrating spatial data into workflows
Final Note
This project is intended to simplify access to foundational GIS data and support users at all experience levels in building effective spatial solutions.
