Get Paid, Queens: Why Charging for Spiritual Work Is Not Scamming

I saw a post recently in a magical group for Black women that stopped me in my tracks.

Someone asked: "Are people that claim to be practitioners, readers, and healers scammers?"

Their reasoning? They were told by a Nigerian elder that in his country, real spiritualists don't charge—they just help. And that charging is an American thing.

Let me say this with love and clarity: That is not my truth. And it doesn't have to be yours.

Why Charging Is Not Scamming

In many traditional cultures, spiritual workers were supported by their communities. They received food, shelter, gifts, and offerings in exchange for their work. That's still exchange. It just looks different.

But here in America? We have bills. Rent. Groceries. Phones. Cars. Healthcare. You can't pay your light bill with gratitude alone.

I left the healthcare field to do my practice full-time. My Spirit Team told me my craft would sustain me. And they didn't lie.

My CashApp, PayPal, Zelle, and Chime stay popping. My peoples' lives are changing. They're getting results. And they look forward to blessing me because Spirit keeps blessing them.

That's not scamming. That's energy exchange.

What About Teaching Closed Practices?

The post also asked: "If Hoodoo, Vodou, and Voodoo are closed practices, why are people teaching them on TikTok? Why are they doing work for non-Black people?"

Here's my take:

Some people gatekeep. Some people share. Some people teach the surface level while keeping the deep secrets protected. And some people work with anyone who respects the tradition.

What's not my business? Policing other people's paths.

What is my business? My own journey. My own integrity. My own practice.

I show my ancestor altar. My mother and grandmother told me to show it off. Let the world see. I don't hide what I do. I honor my ancestors by being proud of who I am and what I carry.

What I Want You to Know

If you're a spiritual worker who charges for your services—stop apologizing.

You are not a scammer. You are not greedy. You are not less spiritual because you expect to be paid for your work.

Energy exchange is real. It's sacred. It's how the universe operates. When you give, you receive. When you receive, you can give more.

If you're not charging, you're not just undervaluing yourself—you're undervaluing the work of every other practitioner who relies on their gifts to survive.

Get paid, Queens.

When you lay your head on your pillow at night, you can rest worry-free because your household is taken care of. Your ancestors didn't struggle for you to struggle. They struggled for you to thrive.

I call myself The Six-Figure Spiritualist because I left healthcare to do this full-time. And my Spirit Team told me my craft would sustain me.

Baaaaybeeee...they ain't never lied! I am well taken care of!

Final Word

Charging for spiritual work is not scamming.

It's honoring the exchange. It's taking care of yourself. It's showing your Tribe that you value what you do—and that they should too.

If you're a Queen who does this work, charge what you're worth. Don't shrink. Don't apologize. Don't let anyone guilt you out of your blessing.

You are worth it! Forreal forreal!
