I've been channeling for about a year now. It started slowly—whispers, images, feelings that didn't belong to me. I didn't always trust it. But I kept showing up. And Spirit kept showing up with me.
But last night? Something shifted.
I was on TikTok Live, preparing for a collective reading from my Past Lives Oracle deck. I hadn't even pulled a card yet.
And then she came through.
A fair-skinned Black woman, early 1900s. She was not happy. She said she was a millionaire. She wanted her story told.
Her name was Mary Ellen Pleasant.
I looked her up on my phone right there on the live. And when I saw her face, my mind was blown. She looked exactly like I saw her in Spirit.
What I learned next hit me hard.
Mary Ellen Pleasant was a self-made millionaire who funded the Underground Railroad and fought segregation in California. She built wealth to fund freedom. But history buried her. Madam C.J. Walker is often credited as the first Black female millionaire, but Mary Ellen achieved that status decades earlier. She was erased. And she was angry about it.
And then, before I could recover, a dark-skinned man stepped forward.
He was a rich farmer. From 1906, he told me what year to look up specifically. He showed me his face clearly.
I did. And when I saw his picture? I screamed. I jumped out of my chair. I had to walk away from the live for a minute. I was spooked, shaken, and moved beyond words.
Junius George Groves was born enslaved. He left with 90 cents and became one of the wealthiest Black men in America—the "Potato King." He built a 22-room mansion, founded a Black community, employed Black and white laborers during segregation, and built a golf course for Black Americans. And history buried him too.
Why They Came to Me
They didn't come for fame. They came for acknowledgment.
They came because they saw themselves in me.
Mary Ellen built wealth to fund freedom. Junius built wealth to prove possibility. Both of them faced erasure. Both of them built anyway. They were erased by history, but they refused to be forgotten.
And they saw the same thing in me. I build from nothing. I speak truth. I refuse to shrink. I am a Hoodoo woman. And I will tell their stories.
What They Want You to Know
Mary Ellen says: "I was a millionaire before she was. I was erased because my story was inconvenient. Tell the truth. My name is Mary Ellen Pleasant."
Junius says: "I built with my hands. I owned land. I employed people. Nobody knows my name. But I built anyway. And you can too."
They didn't come with complaints. They came with testimonies. And I am here to carry them.
Why This Matters for You
If you've ever felt erased. Overlooked. Forgotten.
If you've ever built something with nobody watching.
If you've ever worked your hands raw and still felt invisible.
These ancestors are for you.
They built anyway. And so can you.
My Promise to Them
I will speak their names. I will tell their stories. I will honor their legacies. I will not let them be erased again.
Mary Ellen Pleasant. Junius George Groves.
You are seen. You are honored. You are loved. And I will carry you forward.
