A recent study by Microsoft and Kyndryl highlights a significant gap in leveraging technology for sustainability, with only 21% of organizations reportedly using tech to reduce their carbon footprints and drive sustainability strategies. Despite 84% recognizing sustainability's strategic importance, many organizations are falling short of actionable implementation.
The findings reveal that while 62% of organizations utilize AI for energy monitoring, merely 37% employ predictive AI for optimizing future energy needs. This indicates a missed opportunity for enhanced data integration and proactive strategy development. Moreover, although 55% of companies incorporate sustainability into their reporting, only 19% leverage data for strategic decision-making, which negatively affects their overall transformation efforts.
To maximize sustainability outcomes, businesses should consider integrating sustainability data with operational metrics and utilize AI for scenario planning and climate risk strategies. Embracing technology in this way can fundamentally transform companies' impact on the environment and promote meaningful progress toward sustainability goals.
