Walking in Confidence: Embracing the Slow Seasons

Silencing the inner critic so you can lead and live boldly.

As a business owner, I’ve learned that there are times of busyness and there are slow seasons. As a therapist, I remember how those slow seasons would leave me worried and restless.

Questions would swirl in my mind: Why aren’t the clients coming? Am I doing something wrong? Will my business survive? In my anxiety, I often felt tempted to chase quick fixes or try new strategies that weren’t always wise or aligned with my mission.

Over time, through conversations with trusted colleagues, I learned that this field has natural ebbs and flows. Instead of panicking, I began to see slow seasons as opportunities.

I started using that time to plan my continuing education, reconnect with my purpose, or even take long-overdue vacations. I also discovered strategic ways to prepare for and mitigate those slower periods, which helped me feel more secure and less reactive.

From that place of peace and preparation, I found the courage and stability to keep moving forward in business, knowing that each season had its purpose.

Practical Tool:

When you find yourself in a slow season, try this approach:

1️ Name it honestly. Write down what feels slow or stuck right now. Acknowledge the emotions without judgment.

2️ Plan intentional investments. Choose one area where you can invest your time — continuing education, reconnecting with loved ones, or resting intentionally.

3️ Prepare for the next wave. Identify one practical step that will strengthen you for when things pick up again (for example, creating new content, updating business systems, or reviewing your vision).

Instead of letting the slow season create panic, you can use it as a time of preparation and renewal.

Reflection questions:

What gifts might be hidden in your current "slow season"?

How can you embrace it rather than rush through it?
