.
Hey there. I’m Schané , and my pancreas is currently on permanent strike.
When I’m not micro-managing my endocrine system, I wear a few other fabulous hats: I’m a professional makeup artist, the author of "My Bitter Sweet Struggle," and a mother to two amazing daughters who keep me on my toes (and occasionally drive me to drink an iced coffee in a quiet closet).
When I was first diagnosed with diabetes, I was handed a mountain of clinical brochures, a depressing list of things I could no longer eat, and zero advice on how to handle the emotional rollercoaster of it all. I quickly realized that the medical world tells you how to survive diabetes, but it doesn't really teach you how to live with it without losing your mind.
So, I started writing. First a book, and now this blog.
Glamour, Glam, and Glucose Tabs
You might wonder how a diabetic author fits into the beauty world. Honestly? It's the perfect match. Diabetes can feel incredibly ugly and draining. Being a makeup artist allows me to help women (and myself!) find their confidence, inject some color into the grey days, and remember that we are still fierce, even when our blood sugars are misbehaving.
Plus, applying a flawless wing requires steady hands—which is a great metric for checking if my sugar is dropping.
Sugar, Spice, and Everything... Calculated
Despite my pancreas hating actual sugar, I absolutely love baking. Yes, you read that right. A diabetic baker. I show my love through food, and there is nothing I love more than throwing absolutely awesome, over-the-top parties for my girls.
I might have to do some intense mathematical equations to figure out the insulin dose for a slice of my own birthday cake creation, but I refuse to let this condition steal the joy of celebrating my daughters. I am a mother first, a party planner second, and a diabetic somewhere down the line.
