Paper Trail Tools records and documentation organizers: turn scattered notes into a clearer record.

A Simple Way to Organize Dates, Receipts, Messages, and Photos

When an issue unfolds over several days, the details can end up scattered among texts, email attachments, phone photographs, receipts, and handwritten notes. Later, the hard part is often remembering which event belongs with which source file.

A practical starting method is to create a master timeline. Give each entry a date, a short factual description, and an ID. Then make a separate file index listing each photo, document, or message and the ID that connects it to your timeline. Keep your original files unchanged, and make working copies for highlighting or sharing. If you do not know the exact time of an event, label that uncertainty rather than guessing.

A second log can track requests and responses: when a request was made, the method used, what was asked for, and whether an answer was received. That separation helps you find information later without making a claim that the paperwork itself proves anything.

Paper Trail Tools has two packets intended to support this type of organization. They are organizational tools only and do not provide legal advice or establish legal deadlines.
