Where the Dead Road Bends is currently in the outlining stage and is shaping into a dark, mythic horror novel about mercy, inheritance, and the terrible cost of carrying what was never yours.
The story follows Mara Vey, a woman tied to an ancient system of burden-carriers, who are people used to take the unresolved pain of the dying so the dead can pass on cleanly. But when one mercy rite goes wrong, Mara discovers that the truth behind the ritual is far older, darker, and more dangerous than anyone in the Order is willing to admit.
This book will walk through death houses, forbidden records, old family sins, and the Dead Road itself, where mercy does not always mean salvation.
I’m currently aiming to finish the full drafting stage around mid-to-late 2027, with feedback reads hopefully beginning after that. My rough target right now is a possible release window around September 2027, though that may shift depending on drafting pace, editing, and life in general. I’ll also be on paternity leave for a stretch, along with building a house, so there’s a chance the timeline could move a little faster or slower.
For now, the Dead Road is bending into shape.
