Welcome to my store

I'm Anna Sayburn Lane, and I've been publishing my crime fiction since 2018. My background is in journalism, especially medical journalism, which comes in handy when writing murder mysteries!

I have two series of books: the 1920s Murder Mysteries, featuring apprentice private detective Marjorie Swallow, and the Helen Oddfellow thrillers, a contemporary series featuring a literary researcher who gets caught up in some very modern-day mysteries while researching the past.

I'm inspired by literature, London and long walks. I have published award-winning short stories and was picked as a “Crime in the Spotlight” new author at the 2019 Bloody Scotland International Crime Writing Festival. My 2018 debut novel Unlawful Things was shortlisted for the Virago/The Pool New Crime Writer award.

I also write about the research I do for my books, and about life as an independent author, over on my Substack, The Stories Behind The Story.
