TJ Becton

I’m a 23-year-old young Black American, disabled United States Navy veteran, father, and aspiring writer navigating a chaotic world while discovering who I truly am.

My journey has been anything but conventional. From serving my country at a young age to experiencing homelessness, financial hardships, broken relationships, and the challenges of transitioning into civilian life, I’ve experienced circumstances that have forced me to question myself, my environment, and the world around me.

One of my greatest ongoing battles is fighting for custody of my son. Fatherhood is an important part of my identity, and despite the challenges I’ve encountered, I continue to pursue the opportunity to be present in his life.

My achievements extend beyond my military service. I’ve pursued my education, begun publishing my own eBooks, and developed a growing passion for writing, philosophy, self-awareness, and independent thinking. Each accomplishment represents another step toward building a life that reflects my own values.

As a young Black man navigating modern society, I’ve struggled with expectations surrounding masculinity, success, relationships, and personal identity. For much of my life, I allowed outside influences to shape how I viewed myself. Today, I’m learning to think independently, appreciate solitude, and recognize the value of my own thoughts and experiences.

Writing has become an outlet for that transformation. Through my work, I share personal perspectives on human behavior, emotional independence, social expectations, and the importance of questioning what we’ve been taught.

I’m still finding my identity. I’m still learning, making mistakes, and discovering what it means to genuinely love and appreciate myself.

My story is still being written, and for the first time in my life, I’m learning to appreciate the person holding the pen.
