Intermittent Fasting, Weightloss & Exercise

On my last blog post that was published 2 weeks ago, I mentioned that I practice intermittent fasting. It’s a layered topic, I realised I thought I was being too personal in my previous blog, Nop it’s about to get a bit weird on this post.

Hi guys, 👋🏾 I’m back with another yap post that I can’t put on video cause I already do that so to improve my writing skills by sharing tips and tricks with you, for Weightloss, Fasting and exercise. Intermittent fasting by the dictionary definition is; an eating pattern that cycles between periods of eating and voluntary fasting.

This is literally the best definition of it, I will start by telling you why I do it. I had colleagues who were fasting when I use to be a waiter and was fascinated by their will power to function and hold back while being exposed to all kinds of foods. I asked them the benefits of it and they were very spiritual reasons as to why they could dry fast, and go long periods of time fasting. I did my own research, saw that brain fog disappears when you fast, bloating follows and that your organs rebuild and heal better when fasting. Our bodies & organs can’t handle the habitual eating we are taught in this society.

Fascinated AF, I started researching what intermittent fasting meant for real cause I wasn’t about to do a dry fast ain't no way. I am someone who believes that our relationship with food comes from home. That it is also greatly connected to our emotions & mindset. Whatever belief you have about food, is probably the reason why you are struggling to lose weight. For example, I know a big chunk of the population refers to eating vegetables & fruits as being poor or not successful but you know what’s poor? Believing processed foods and junk are a sign of wealth, cause guess what they feed you at the hospital when you diabetic, you guessed it! Vegetables and Fruits. So, fasting resets your mindset and attachment to food. It Exposes you to your habitual eating, addiction to food, hunger, ignorance and lack of knowledge.

Here is how I do my fasting, 2x a week a chose a day where my first meal is at 12:00pm afternoon so the first 5hrs of the day I am drinking water and listening to my body. When I break the fast, I don’t reach out for Junk foods (sweets, chips etc) no, I eat whole foods. Or nuts or fruit..whatever grows from the ground is your friend. Breaking that attachment to foods is what leads choosing better groceries. Therefore, your meals get better in nutrition and healthier.

Yes, I’m saying fast if you want to lose weight but it’s sustained by consistency of eating fruits, vegetables, carbohydrates, proteins. And just know this, once you stop taking care of yourself- yes the weight will come back. Everything needs maintenance and if you are not willing to make this a life style, and I’m holding your hand while I say this.. you will be moving in circles when it comes to weight loss.

Now, sometimes I am able to exercise while fasting. I call this ‘fasted cardio or exercise’. It’s not something I’m saying you should do as a beginner especially, if you are not disciplined enough don’t try having a fasted workout session. I don’t recommend “fasted training” when you are chasing and crushing PRs in the weight room but cardio, yoga or Pilates and see how your body responds. You are most likely going to feel like it’s a bit challenging or that you have no energy but I legit believe it does something to your will power and psych.

Lastly, caffeine, protein powers, creatine etc. I know nothing about these products, I don’t recommend them cause they are processed. I am hater of anything ..foods that’s processed and a hype man for will power cause if you believe in your mind you can achieve, you don’t need any external stimulus to help you. 🫶🏾

Lastly, do it for you. Your body, your organs and not because you are punishing yourself.
