About Me
About Doug Schofield
Welcome! I’m Doug Schofield, an author, Christian educator, and lifelong follower of Jesus. I spent more than 30 years in public education as a teacher and administrator, with additional experience in curriculum development and helping students think critically about complex issues.
Alongside my professional career, I served in churches and Christian ministries, teaching, mentoring, and creating resources to help children, teens, and adults understand and defend their faith. After retiring from public education, equipping teens, parents, and youth leaders became a primary focus of my writing and ministry.
I create practical, biblically grounded, evidence-based resources that help adults respond to honest questions, encourage thoughtful faith conversations, and guide young people toward a confident, resilient relationship with Jesus Christ. My hope is that these books, courses, and teaching tools will strengthen families, support churches, and prepare the next generation to live out their faith with conviction, wisdom, and grace.
The Journey to Faith Resilience
Today’s teens are growing up in a world filled with confusion, pressure, anxiety, skepticism, and competing worldviews. Many are not loudly rejecting Christianity — they are quietly drifting away from it.
Parents, pastors, teachers, and mentors often see the warning signs but feel unsure how to respond without creating conflict, fear, or emotional distance.
Before They Walk Away is a practical, biblically grounded guide designed to help caring adults confidently walk alongside teens through doubt, discouragement, and spiritual questions toward a resilient, lasting faith in Jesus Christ.
Drawing from more than 30 years of experience in education, leadership, mentoring, and Christian apologetics, Douglas Schofield combines biblical wisdom, relational insight, research, and practical tools to help mentors:
- Recognize the early signs of faith drift
- Create safe and honest conversations
- Understand the emotional and cultural pressures teens face
- Respond to difficult questions with wisdom and grace
- Use the FaithMap™ framework to understand where teens are spiritually
- Equip young people with evidence-based confidence in Christianity
- Build strong relationships that support long-term faith resilience
Filled with real-life case studies, discussion tools, visual diagrams, mentoring strategies, reflection exercises, and practical appendices, this resource is designed not only to inform — but to equip.
Whether you are a parent trying to reconnect with your teen, a pastor leading families, a teacher working with students, or a volunteer discipling young people, Before They Walk Away offers hope-filled guidance for one of the most important challenges facing the church today.
Because every conversation matters. Every relationship matters. And with God’s help, faith can last.
"Before They Walk Away" is a powerful and practical guide for parents, pastors, teachers, and mentors who want to help teenagers develop a strong, lasting faith in Christ. Douglas Schofield combines biblical wisdom with practical mentoring strategies to address the challenges young people face in today's culture.
The book offers valuable tools for recognizing faith drift, engaging in meaningful conversations, and guiding teens through doubt with grace and confidence. Its practical approach, including the FaithMap™ framework and real-life examples, makes it an excellent resource for anyone involved in discipling the next generation.
This is an encouraging, well-written, and highly recommended book that equips readers to help young people build a resilient faith that endures.
