I’ve spent nearly four decades solving problems most people never see—but that can determine whether a product succeeds or fails.

I’m Drew Karnes, founder of BitMetrics, LLC, an embedded systems engineering company focused on turning complex product ideas into reliable, production-ready systems.

My career has taken me deep inside the technology that makes modern products work: embedded firmware, electronics, real-time operating systems, communications, control systems, medical devices, industrial equipment, power electronics, and products where hardware and software have to work together flawlessly.

Much of my work has involved the problems that resist easy answers—the failure that occurs once every few weeks, the system that behaves differently when a debugger is attached, the timing problem that disappears when logging is added, or the hardware/firmware interaction that survives every conventional test but fails in the field.

Those experiences taught me something important:

The hardest engineering problems are rarely solved by knowing one more debugging command. They are solved by knowing what questions to ask, what evidence to preserve, and how to design an experiment that separates one possible explanation from another.

That accumulated engineering judgment is what BitMetrics Engineering Resources is intended to capture.

These aren't generic AI-generated ebooks or collections of information readily available elsewhere. They are practical engineering resources built from decades of real product-development experience—then organized into methods, tools, checklists, and workflows that another engineer can actually use.

My goal is simple: pass along the kind of engineering knowledge that normally takes years of difficult projects, field failures, late nights, and stubborn problems to acquire.

If one of these resources helps an engineer recognize the right question sooner, preserve the evidence that would otherwise disappear, avoid a week chasing the wrong hypothesis, or design the next product so that its failures are easier to understand, it has done what I created it to do.
